First National Conference on Space Sciences26 Sep 2012 The Institute of Space & Planetary Astrophysics, University of Karachi is organizing the First National Conference on Space Sciences on October 8, 2012 at Arts Auditorium, University of Karachi for celebrating "World Space Week 2012". This conference is being organized in collaboration with SUPARCO, Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology, Institute of Space Technology, Higher Education Commission and Pakistan Physical Society, Sindh Chapter. Four-Day workshop on Bio statistical Methods in Genomics & Bioinformatics25 Sep 2012 "Statistical Advisory Board - to be established at University of Karachi", agreed upon by the Prof. Muhammad Qaiser, Vice Chancellor, University of Karachi, upon the recommendation of Dr. Manzoor H. Soomro, Chairman, Pakistan Science Foundation. Dr. Soomro was addressing the concluding ceremony of Four-Day workshop on "Biostatistical Methods in Genomics & Bioinformatics," held during September 19-22, 2012 at Dr. A. Q. Khan Institute of Biotechnology & Genetic Engineering (KIBGE), University of Karachi, as the Chief Guest. Dr. Soomro emphasized the need and importance of statistical tools and techniques, utilized in almost all kinds of research projects right from the designing phase till the end of the research. These methods are equally necessary for biological, physical as well as social science researchers. Prof. Muhammad Qaiser, in his presidential address, highlighted the significance of Biostatistics as a fundamental feature of designing, analyzing, and accomplishment of any research project. He also commended the hard work that was put up by the resource persons as well as the organizing committee, KIBGE in conducting such event to facilitate the young researchers. The Vice Chancellor appreciated the efforts of Director General, Faculty and Staff the institute for recurrently organizing such workshops and conferences to enhance the skills of young researchers. While presenting the vote of thanks, the Director General of the institute, Prof. Abid Azhar thanked the resource persons and the participants to be a part of an interactive, mutually benefited activity. University signs MoU with Feroza Hashim Foundation25 Sep 2012 "University of Karachi is dealing with the most critical phase of financial crunch where it has to deal with limited allocation of Government funds. In this relation, private organizations are coming forward to help us which is indeed a great effort on their part", these views were expressed by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qaiser during his address to the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding between University of Karachi and Feroza Hashim Foundation. As per the MoU, the Feroza Hashim foundation will sponsor the construction of a multipurpose hall in the Department of Visual Studies. President – Feroza Hashim Foundation showed great rigor and motivation in providing financial assistance to University of Karachi for its projects. During his presidential address, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qaiser – Vice Chancellor, University of Karachi, emphasized that a combination of Peace, Security and Education results in a triangle that guarantees absolute success of a nation. He was of the opinion that fruitful discussions on alive and contemporary issues can open up the youth's minds and inculcate a sense of tolerance in them. During the course of his talk, the Ambassador Jamil Ahmed Khan, underscored the importance of regional alliances and walked the audience through the complex set of institutional mechanisms and how these frameworks resolved conflicts by drawing on his experiences of working with the United Nations and other multilateral bodies. He emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence against the backdrop of various conflicts with potential to endanger the world peace and security.
