European Union is a strong and diversified political institution. Science and technology have no borders. Europe has the most powerful system of integration. Horizon 2020 will provide the funds of around 300-400 million Euros to Pakistani researchers for assistance in their respective research. Research and scholarly work in University of Karachi is commendable and indeed Pakistan is producing internationally acclaimed researchers. Pakistan is a rapidly growing nation and we want to make it much more vibrant in the field of science and research. These views were expressed by His Excellency Steafano Gatto, Acting Head of Delegation of European Union in Pakistan at an Awareness Seminar on Horizon 2020 jointly organized by European Union Delegation to Pakistan, Pakistan Science Foundation and University of Karachi .On the occasion notable dignitaries and faculty members were also present, notable were VC Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qaiser, Chairman Pakistan Science Foundation Prof. Dr. M. Ashraf, Registrar Prof. Dr. Moazzam Ali Khan, Syed Lal Shah, Dr. Mirza Habib, Irfan Ahmed, President KUTS Prof. Dr. Jamil Hasan Kazmi, Dr. Haris Shoaib and Prof. Dr. Abid Hasnain. He further congratulated Pakistan Science Foundation for organizing this seminar while thanked University of Karachi for hosting this program. These programs would also be organized in different other cities of the country as they are very vital in guiding the researchers and providing them new horizons, he added.
VC Prof. Dr. M. Qaiser welcomed His Excellency Steafano Gatto, Acting Head of Delegation of European Union in Pakistan, Chairman Pakistan Science Foundation Prof. Dr. M. Ashraf and other distinguished dignitaries on the occasion. It's a commendable step of organizing these sorts of awareness programs, research is the future of mankind and solutions of all the societal problems are hidden in research and scholarly work. This research grant from European Union would assist the researchers and it would provide uncounted opportunities of sustainable development in the field of science and technology in Pakistan, he added. Prof. Dr. M. Ashraf said that Pakistan Science Foundation was founded in 1973 according to Pakistani parliament act and providing funding to research institutions of Pakistan. The basic aim of PSF is to promote and popularize science. Science and technology is the key to development in every walk of life. This grant of Horizon 2020 is highly competitive and open for all.
Mr. Denis Dambois European Union Counselor, Scientific Affairs based at New Delhi office India while addressing through video link emphasized on the dire need of innovative research for the developing nations. Europe is a highly diversified region and has the largest number of researchers in the world. 1/3 of the production of Science and technology is produced by Europe alone. This 7 years program of Horizon 2020 is open for all individual researchers from all countries. European Union is working in collaboration with Pakistan in this regard and 402 Pakistani students, 10 scholars have gotten grants from the European Union which is highly appreciable and commendable he noted.
Seminar on World Youth Day

Youth are an asset to any nation and they have a pivotal role in the success of the nations. Educated youth class of any nation provides an excellent opportunity of sustainable development. Civilized nations of the world provide great opportunities to the youth for displaying their talent and abilities for the nation's welfare and progress. Health, education, science and technology, politics, industry and in every sector of state, youth must be provided a greater role in order to achieve sustainable development. Prof. Dr. Tariq Masood Ali Khan Director Institute of Environmental Sciences at a Seminar expressed these views on World Youth Day at a seminar jointly organized by Institute of Environmental Sciences KU and Pakistan Red Crescent Society. Registrar, Prof. Dr. Moazzam Ali Khan commended the Prime Minister Youth Program and termed it very vital for resolving the issues of the youth and providing them financial assistance for getting quality education. He added that the youth should be provided a role in the policymaking of the country, as it will bring positive and fruitful results. Youth Parliament is an ideal forum of framing national policies but it needs to be further revitalized. This forum must be connected to the national decision making to include the youth in national and regional issues. He lauded the efforts of PRCS and Volunteer Cell in organizing this event.
Dengue Awareness Seminar on 18-Aug

Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization, UoK and Higher Education Commission of Pakistan jointly organizing an awareness Seminar under social interaction program on Dengue Virus on Tuesday 18th August, 2015 at Arts Auditorium. In the program, Dr. Shiraz Shaikh from Jinnah Sindh Medical University would be the Chief Guest and Dr. Nasir and Dr. M. Ishtiaq Hussain (KU) would educate the audience about the symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and precautionary measures related to Dengue virus.

Pakistan has been founded after significant sacrifices of our forefathers. God provided the Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah the opportunity to convert the idea of Pakistan into a reality. The movement progressed alongside with the Indian independence movement which had the similar views and motives, but the Pakistan Movement sought to establish a nation-state that protected the religious identity and political interests of Muslims in South Asia. Muhammad Ali Jinnah also acclaimed the Pakistan movement to have started when the first Muslim put a foot in the Gateway of Islam. The cause of Pakistan Movement became an inspiration in different countries of the world. Protection of one's beliefs, equal rights, and liberty were incorporated in the state's constitution. These views are expressed by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qaiser while addressing in the inauguration ceremony of Exhibition on Independence Movement of Pakistan organized by Prof. Malahat Kaleem Incharge Dr. Mahmood Hussain Library on Tuesday 11th August, 2015. Intl. Conference on Contemporary Social Sciences 2015 would take place from 5-6 December.

Faculty of Social Sciences University of Karachi has announced the holding of fifth International Conference entitled as International Conference on Contemporary Social Sciences 2015 (ICCSS). The conference would take place in Arts Auditorium, Faculty of Social Sciences, from 5-6 December, 2015. Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Moonis Ahmar told that this conference is one of the new activities being launched by the faculty as part of the strategic objective for the advancement of the frontiers of the production and dissemination of knowledge. It would permit the faculty members of the Social Sciences to reflect on their experiences and exchange views on common challenges and produce viable solutions to them. Interested students/faculty members may submit their abstracts till August 20 while the notification of the acceptance of the abstracts would be issued on 30th August, 2015. Date of submission of final paper is September 25th while the registration deadline is October 31, 2015. Karachi University: Independence Day Walk on Thursday 13th August, 2015

Student Advisor Prof. Dr. Syed Ansar Rizwi has notified that Independence Day Walk has been organized on Thursday 13th August, 2015 at 10:30 am. Registrar, Deans of all faculties, all sectional heads, and chairpersons of departments, students and teachers would participate in the walk. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qaiser would lead the walk from Azadi Chowk to the Administration building. Prof. Dr. M. Qaiser, Prof. Dr. Jaffar Ahmed and Mr. Khuwaja Razi Haider would address on the occasion while Vice Chancellor would conduct the national flag hoisting. A prayer for the prosperity of the country would be done in the end.

University of Karachi and affiliated colleges shall remain closed on Friday 14th August, 2015 on account of Independence Day while Independence day program would be held at ground floor New Administration Building at 8:30 am. VC KU Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qaiser would conduct the flag hoisting and deliver the address to the audience. Prayers would be made in the end for progress, prosperity of Pakistan and special prayers for SHOHDAE ARMY PUBLIC SCHOOL Peshawar and people who died in Heat Stroke Karachi.
