Media, Academia and Policy Makers: A Strategic Triangle27 April 2012 “Media is a vehicle to project the product that the academia produces. Media, Academic and Policy makers constitutes a strategic triangle, the outcome of which is a balanced and well-built country with a knowledge based society. History media and policy makers can form a strategic triangle that can provide better solutions to the challenges that Pakistan is facing currently," these views were expressed by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qaisar and others during their address at the panel discussion organized by the Department of General History. The panel discussion titled Academia, Media, Policy Makers: A Strategic Triangle is part of a project named as History Media Policy Project (HMP) that has been initiated by the General History Department and Public Policy Forum (PPF). While talking about the objectives of the forum, Dr. Taha - Project Director- informed that beside a few exceptions, the quality of argument discussion of our legislators and policy makers on talk shows, in seminars, workshops, conferences and even in the courtroom is not up to the mark that is why we initiated the project that aims at establishing links among historical data, media and policy makers. Chairperson, Department of Mass Communication – Prof. Dr. Rafia Taj said that advertising has numerous impacts on society, both, good and bad. A well-formed advertisement can market a bad product quite well and sometimes a good product’s market is hampered just because of a badly designed advertisement. Talk by the Russian Consul General on Russia's role in the emerging world order13 April 2012 “Terrorism, arms race and drug trafficking are some of the areas which can be a strong point of convergence between Russian Federation and Pakistan”. These ideas were expressed by Mr. Andrey V. Demidov, Consul General of Russian Federation, Karachi ,at a seminar on “Russian Foreign Policy in the Emerging Global Order”. The seminar was organized by the Area Study Centre for Europe, University of Karachi, on April 12, 2012. Prof. Dr. Moonis Ahmar, Director, Area Study Centre for Europe presented his inaugural address in which he threw light upon the dynamics of global politics and transformation. He said that the world order is still in transition. He said that Russia has its huge advantages as well as challenges. Internally, Russia needs to democratize more and externally the policy of mutual recognition and accommodation can yield great results. He stressed upon the need for greater Pakistan-Russia cooperation in various fields.
