After completing her PhD in 2003 with specialization in Microbial and Molecular Genetics, Dr. Uzma Badar joined Department of Genetics, University of Karachi in 2002. There she taught graduate and postgraduate classes with main focus on research and teaching in Genetics. Afterwards appointed as Professor in 2015 and since 2021, she started working as Director in Centre for Molecular Genetics. She has completed her postdoc from University of Toronto, Canada.
She is a HEC recognized Ph.D. supervisor and one student have successfully completed Ph.D. research work under her supervision and 02 are currently working. Till now she has guided 20 B.S/MSc, 2 M.S/M.Phil. research thesis. She has published 40 research papers in journals of International and national repute. She also authored three book chapters in international books.
She is currently working on plant viruses with special emphasis on Environmental Bacteriology. In environmental bacteriology her focus was on heavy metal resistant bacteria and their use as bioremediation of polluted environment. She is successful in developing cost-effective technology for the detoxification of copper in the polluted environment using bacteria. Whereas in biotechnology work is concentrated on plant microbe interaction. Other domain of her research is the development of bio filters. |
