Last date for submission of examination forms of M.A. (Regular and Private)

Annual Examination forms of MA Previous and Final (Regular) Colleges can be submitted till 17th May with a prescribed fee of Rs.2675 in the respective colleges. Moreover, examination forms and fee for MA and Double MA previous and final (Private) can be submitted till 31st May to the bank counter at Silver Jubilee Gate, KU. University of Karachi has also given a final chance to those who were registered in 2005. Such candidates can submit their forms with a fee of Rs.5000.
B.S., B.S. (Honors) and Masters Evening program fee submission

The Directorate of Evening Program notified that all those students of B.S., B.S. (Honors) and Masters programs of the Evening Program who have not paid their tuition/examination fee so far must clear all their dues before May 26, 2012. Those who fail to comply will not be allowed to appear in the Examination.

KU Architecture student wins Bangladeshi Scholarship

Murtaza Quaid Kanchwala, a 3rd year Architecture student of the Department of Visual Studies, University of Karachi has been selected to receive the "Rafique Azam Travelling Scholarship 2012" organized by Atelier Pakistan. Students of the four universities of Karachi offering degrees in architecture, University of Karachi, NED University, Indus Valley School of Art & Architecture, and Dawood University were invited to submit their portfolios. Three shortlisted students including Murtaza Quaid Kanchwala, 3rd year Architecture student at the Department of Visual Studies, University of Karachi were invited to speak briefly about their portfolios at the Atelier event at T2F, where Murtaza Quaid Kanchwala was awarded the scholarship. The travel Scholarship was set up by the award winning Bangladeshi architect, Rafique Azam. The Scholarship enables one student to visit Bangladesh for one week and intern at Rafique Azam's office in June 2012. The Scholarship provides the return airfare from Karachi to Dhaka, as well as all boarding and lodging expenses for the duration of the stay in Bangladesh.
Fee payment of Semester Examination 2012

University of Karachi has extended the last date for the payment of Semester Examination-2012 with late fee of Rs. 500/- from 07-05-2012 to 10-05-2012. The fee should be deposited in the United Bank Limited Campus Branch after the endorsement by Bursar Office.
M.Phil./Ph.D./M.S./M.D. Aptitude Test conducted

University of Karachi conducted the aptitude test for admissions in the M.Phil./Ph.D./M.S./M.D. program 2012, yesterday on 6th May 2012, in which around 3000 candidates appeared for admission against 1040 seats, approximately, in various faculties. The test was conducted in a conducive environment, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qaisar visited all the faculties and appreciated the arrangements. In the faculty of Science 1112 candidates took the test for 386 seats, in the Faculty of Arts 610 appeared for 260 seats, in Islamic Studies 200 appeared for 55 seats, Medicine 210 for 20 seats, Management and Administrative Sciences 268 for 45 seats and in the faculty of Pharmacy 118 candidates appeared for admission against 15 seats. Moreover, admission test for the faculty of Law will be conducted on May 13th 2012 in the Arts Auditorium.
Department of Mass Communication signs MoU with Press Council of Pakistan

On the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day, Department of Mass Communication and Press Council of Pakistan signed an MoU. Under this MoU a number of seminars, workshops will be arranged in which resource persons and experts from both the institutions will share their expertise. Chairperson – Department of Mass Communication expressed her gratitude on the occasion and said that this sharing of expertise will surely benefit both the institution because in the fast growing world of media, it is imperative that its members be equipped with the latest technology.

KU distributes scholarship cheques among deserving students on need cum merit basis

"During the current scenario when almost the entire nation is striving to deal with the financial crunch, University of Karachi owns the financial problems of its students and provide them solutions in the form of scholarships that are awarded on a need cum merit basis," Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qaisar expressed these views while addressing the scholarship cheque distribution ceremony at University of Karachi. The mission statement of Karachi University No students should go with unfinished education from our University because of financial crises was successfully materialized on May 3rd 2012 when a scholarship cheque distribution ceremony was arranged. Director Student Financial Aid Office- Prof. Dr. Shakeel Ahmed Khan organized a Scholarship Cheque Distribution Ceremony in collaboration with Mitsubishi Corporation International.
KU organized seminar to celebrate the freedom of Press

"Media in today's world is playing a dynamic role in shaping up the psychological stance of an individual. Slogan of free media has both positive and negative implications, utilization of this freedom depends upon our policies. In this connection, great responsibility is laid upon the journalists' shoulders," these views were expressed by the Chairman Pakistan Press Council - Raja Shafqat Khan Abbasi, Chairperson Department of Mass Communication - Prof. Dr. Rafia Taj, Prof. Shahida Qazi, Mujahid Barelvi, Ghazi Salahuddin and others.
Pakistan Study Centre organizes International Conference on labour Issues

"It is unfortunate that the labour issues in Pakistan are one of the most neglected one. They revolve around the paradigm of an excessively narrow-based legislative and institutional order. The need is to look into the issues related to labour in a broader as well as specific context. Labours are usually a neglected entity in the media as well. It apparently lead to a correlation between labour and poverty," these views were expressed by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qaisar, Prof. Dr. Jan Breman – University of Amsterdam - The Netherlands, Prof. Dr. Jafar Ahmed – Director Pakistan Study Centre, University of Karachi, Karamat Ali – Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research and others while addressing the inaugural session of the two day International Conference on Labour in the Age of Globalization, organized by the Pakistan Study Centre – University of Karachi and Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research here on Wednesday. The Vice Chancellor appreciated the suggestion of establishment of Labour Rights Chair at the University of Karachi, "such a chair will help investigating the real problems related to labours in Pakistan, it will also provide solutions to the identified problems", said the VC.
Scholarship Cheque Distribution Ceremony

The Students' Financial Aid Office, University of Karachi, is organizing the Mitsubishi Scholarship Cheque Distribution Ceremony on 3rd May 2012 at 11:00 am in the Council Room of Dean Faculty of Arts. According to the In-charge Students' Financial Aid Office, Prof. Dr. Shakeel Ahmed Khan, this is the distribution of first and second installment of Mitsubishi Corporation Scholarship in which 56 students will be awarded the scholarships. The cheques will be distributed by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qaisar.
Media, Academia and Policy Makers: A Strategic Triangle

“Media is a vehicle to project the product that the academia produces. Media, Academic and Policy makers constitutes a strategic triangle, the outcome of which is a balanced and well-built country with a knowledge based society. History media and policy makers can form a strategic triangle that can provide better solutions to the challenges that Pakistan is facing currently," these views were expressed by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qaisar and others during their address at the panel discussion organized by the Department of General History. The panel discussion titled Academia, Media, Policy Makers: A Strategic Triangle is part of a project named as History Media Policy Project (HMP) that has been initiated by the General History Department and Public Policy Forum (PPF). While talking about the objectives of the forum, Dr. Taha - Project Director- informed that beside a few exceptions, the quality of argument discussion of our legislators and policy makers on talk shows, in seminars, workshops, conferences and even in the courtroom is not up to the mark that is why we initiated the project that aims at establishing links among historical data, media and policy makers. It would facilitate amjor stakeholders to bridge up the gap among factual data and other respective entities, expressed Dr. Taha.

Panel Discussion on Academia, Media, Policy Makers: A Strategic Triangle

Department of History is launching a project on History Media Policy in collaboration with Public Policy Forum (PPF). The project aims at developing interaction among academia, media and policy makers. It intends to facilitate major stakeholders of the fore mentioned agencies for bridging gaps and developing a healthy and trust-worthy relationship. In relation, a panel discussion is organized to introduce and discuss the theme of the project, titled Academia, Media, Policy Makers: A Strategic Triangle on April 26th 2012 at 10:00 am in the Arts Auditorium.

Convener Post graduate Admission Committee, Prof. Dr. Shahana Urooj Kazmi has announced that the last date for submission of admission forms for M.Phil./Ph.D./M.S./M.D. has been extended till Monday, April 23rd 2012. Forms can be submitted with a pay order of Rs. 1500 (prescribed fee+late fee of Rs.500). Moreover, list of eligible candidates for entrance test will be displayed on the website on 26th April 2012. It is pertinent to mention that the Department of Education has announced 5 seats for Ph.D. (Education). Interested candidates must submit the form before the last date.
