SAARC has a long way to travel. Concerted efforts on the part of member countries can turn a weak organization into a strong one. The intelligentsia has a big role to play.” These views were expressed by Professor Dr. Qasim Raza Siddiqui, Vice Chancellor, University of Karachi. He was speaking at the inaugural session of a three day “Third SAARC Simulation Exercise” organized by the Department of International Relations, University of Karachi in collaboration with Hanns Siedel Foundation, Islamabad.
Former Foreign Secretary Mr. Shamshad Ahmed Khan delivered the key note address. He said that SAARC has unfortunately not remained immune to hegemonic tendencies. A culture of equality is needed in SAARC. Apart from it theSAARC countries should now start discussing political and security issues so that its practical usefulness can be enhanced.
Mr. Martin Axman-Resident Representative, Hanns Siedel Foundation, Islamabad-presented his welcome address and appreciated the efforts made by the several universities particularly University of Karachi for making SAARC Simulation Exercise a reality.

Department of Biochemistry, University of Karachi is organizing the
three day Symposium cum Workshop from March 1st till 3rd, 2011. The
year 2011-2012 would be celebrated as the 50th year of the foundation
of the Department of Biochemistry, University of Karachi as declared
by the Chairperson of the Department.

As per directive of the Vice Chancellor, for the convenience of students of Evening Program, two new buses have been added to the KU transport fleet. It has also been announced that the administration is completely aware of the transport problems of the students of evening program and in order to solve these issues this fleet will constantly be increased in future.

Registrar has announced that the Academic Council in its meeting has approved in principle the prospectus for admissions in M.S./Ph.D. and M.S. (Surgery)/MD (medicines) program 2011. According to the schedule, the admission forms will be issued from 14th till 22nd March whereas the aptitude test will be conducted on 3rd April. The academic session will commence from 15th July 2011.
